BABYLON - birdcage

BABYLON - birdcage

von unserem Korrespondenten Arthur Baron von Aktaion

After a foul-tempered angel has overthrown the biblical city Babylon, its grandeur was gone:

»Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, … and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.« (Rev 18,2)

If we would use our golden birdcage of BABYLON strictly according to the biblical presetting, we would have to install an illustrious ornithologic zoo. Because regarded as impure birds by the bible are:

»The eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray, And the vulture, and the kite after his kind; Every raven after his kind; And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckow, and the hawk after his kind, And the little owl, and the cormorant, and the great owl, And the swan, and the pelican, and the gier eagle, And the stork, the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.« (3. Mose 11, 13-19)

Our birdcage with its height of 45 cm and a diameter of 29 cm is quite ample dimensioned, but for such a flock of birds a little bit too small. Furthermore we do not accept the downfall of Babylon.

Rather we let those fine birds fly loose and pamper the tradition of babylonian aesthetics of opulence and lust for life - and create birdcages, which as ceramic objects are above all: a refined piece of the world of Kühn Keramik.
